Fediverse

The Fediverse is an ecosystem of decentralized social media platforms, the most notable of which is Mastodon. Whereas most social media companies make their money by exploiting users, violating their privacy in order to generate ad revenue, the Fediverse is different. It is instead a community, over a million strong, of people who build and enjoy social media as a public good instead of as a profit-generating machine.

I run my own Mastodon server which anyone is invited to join. The fediverse extends far beyond just that however, into video, forums, and more. A better future is possible, out from under the thumb of Zuckerberg and Musk. But you have to be a part of building it.
